An excellent bin.
We use a 30 litre version for normal rubbish and bought the 50 litre for recycling, for which it is perfect.
Only complaint, which also applies to the 30 litre version, the catch which fits into the lid and provides the touch lock/release is too easily disconnected from the lid, resulting in having to search through the rubbish for the lid catch.

We must have bought our Barbantia H40-50L 2-3 years ago. Best bin we ever bought. It looks stylish and the "touch" lid is great, keeps bad smells in and especially helpful when you have your hands full, much better than those foot pedal bins. It's very easy to clean the lid, because the chrome and black plastic are separate pieces and can be washed in the sink. The bin bags are not cheap, but for a family of 5 people they hold a huge amount and it just simply pulls out of the bin leaving the base spotlessly clean.
Sadly like a lot of people I have seen comment, the black plastic lug that points upward to catch the lid is quite fragile and easily snapped off. Not sure if you call it wear and tear or not, but I phoned Barbantia customer services (on 0844 873 5848) and explained, the very polite lady said "well you need a complete new lid, but its covered under our 10 year guarantee and will be free of charge". I must say I was dumbstruck, I even said that I have no guarantee, receipt or anything to prove how long I have had it and she was not concerned at all, she just said that's fine.
Evidently I will be sent a returns Sticker. I have to place the complete lid in some bin liners, attached the pre-paid postage sticker, take it to the post office and they will dispatch a brand new lid assembly.
I cannot remember the last time I have phoned such an incredible level of customer service. Great product and Customer Services, quite rare I would say.

Money very well spent!
I bought my bin well over 15 years ago and had a problem with the lid this year.
Never truly believed lifetime would mean actual lifetime.
I sent back the lid back as requested by Brabantia, postage pre paid,got a replacement within 2 weeks.
Cant fault their service!

Excellent product, I would recommend it to anybody!! Bought a similar bin from Next (Next own's brand) and the bin lid failed to shut within a week of using it. Got it replaced and the replacement bin lid did not work at all on receipt!! Sent them back and purchased this very high quality bin. You can feel the difference between that bin and this Brabantia bin lid ~ sturdier, very high quality oh and also less trips to the black bin outside!! Might be pricey but you do get what you pay for!!

What can you say aabout Brabantia except they are pricey! Buying through Amazon helps as I purchased for more than 50% reduction in price which makes it more reasonable, but still expensive compared with many more lesser products as it is a class item. It is worth paying more as it has a tasteful design and really does look the part. Functionality is excellent, the touch opening smooth and the product stands out even in a large kitchen as being in keeping with a modern tatsteful decor and stylish kitchen. Worth paying the extra!!
